• The U.S. Army recently awarded MicroStrain Inc. a Phase I SBIR contract to develop an active radio frequency identification embedded usage tracking system for helicopter rotating components. The objective of the SBIR is to develop a comprehensive and networked health management capability that can be embedded directly into rotorcraft components. The new nodes to be developed will be compatible with MicroStrain's new wireless sensor data aggregators, which synch wireless sensor networks and provide a remote portal to a secure server. • Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast of Castleton has been selected as a Best in New England in the annual Best of BedandBreakfast.com awards. Applewood Manor is the sole Vermont recipient of the award for 2009-2010. With a one-barrel system, Lawson's is Vermont's smallest brewery with local distribution in just the Mad River Valley area until now. The Three Penny Taproom in the capital city hosted Lawson's recently for a special release of a double-dry hopped keg of Hopzilla Double IPA. Also Sean Lawson has teamed up with a Burlington brewpub for a second collaboration. Owner Paul Sayler and brewer Destiny Saxon at the Zero Gravity-Flatbread Hearth hosted Lawson for a guest-brew in June as a special offering for the Vermont Brewers Festival. • Chris McGee, owner of Maxo Marketing LLC in Charlotte, announced the acquisition of TRAVELHOST of Vermont Magazine, part of the TRAVELHOST network. As the only traveler resource distributed in hotel rooms, TRAVELHOST of Vermont serves the Vermont visitor, helping local businesses connect with the tourist and business traveler, with a presence in over 8,000 hotel rooms and 100 hotels throughout the state. • The AAA Four-Diamond Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa in Stowe has been ranked 37th among the 75 'Best in the World' in the mainland U.S. by Conde Nast Traveler readers.
