Expecting to get into the details of easement agreements, the Knox County Commissioners found themselves instead revising their plans after a visit to Bladensburg on Monday afternoon.
NEWARK -- They started work in the 1960s at a new one-story office building on Granville Road, unsure how the new job would work out and how long they'd stay.
Knox County Emergency Management Agency Director Brian Hess said the small oil fire Friday afternoon at the intersection of Ohio 541 and McCament Road did not pose a safety threat.
A volunteer firefighter noticed smoke coming from the area of Ohio 541 and McAment Road on Friday afternoon, and alerted fire personnel in time for them to extinguish the fire before it grew too far out of control.
It was standing room only as residents packed the Bladensburg Elementary School cafeteria, hoping to learn more about the spate of burglaries that have occurred in the area, the status of the investigation into the death of Jean Davis, and what they can do to help prevent future occurrences such as these.
Bladensburg and Martinsburg area residents are encouraged to attend a crime awareness seminar on Monday to learn personal safety information from representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Licking County Sheriff's Office, Utica Police Department and Knox County Sheriff David Barber.
"Detectives continue to follow up on all leads, tips and information that they have received," Knox County Sheriff David Barber said late Tuesday regarding the investigation into the murder of Jean Davis.
The small, tight-knit Bladensburg community is struggling to make sense of recent crimes, which have left some feeling uneasy about their safety in an area which does not usually have much crime.
