After reading the letters to the editor Monday, I am still astonished there continues to be an outcry about the removal of a rock in Groton Long Point.
Groton - Deposited by a glacier thousands of years ago at a strategic spot overlooking Palmer Cove, the squarish granite block known as Patriot Rock or, simply, "the big rock," has embodied history and nostalgia for generations.
The Representative Town Meeting has finished its deliberations and approved a budget of nearly $118.1 million for the 2009-10 fiscal year - about $437,000 less than the Town Council approved last month.
