A pretrial hearing is scheduled next week for a man accused of assaulting and robbing an elderly woman in her South Pasadena home. Alonzo Bernard Johnson allegedly overpowered the woman -- she was 79 or 80, depending on news reports -- and robbed her at her home in the 1000 block of Indiana Avenue on an August morning in 2012.
8minutenergy Renewables LLC said Thursday it signed a 25-year contract to sell 100 megawatts of electricity from its Springbok Solar Farm project to the Southern California Public Power Authority. Folsom-based 8minutenergy will design, build and operate the Springbok Solar Farm in Kern County, about 70 miles north of Los Angeles.

Oscar-winning movie director Quentin Tarantino recently withdrew an offer to buy the closed Rialto Theatre in South Pasadena, California, reported the South Pasadena Review . According to South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce President Scott Feldmann, Tarantino agreed to a contract for a short period of time, before pulling back on his offer prior to closing the deal.
On August 28, 2014, a local group of citizens affiliated with the South Pasadena Tax Limitation Committee filed a Notice of Intent to Circulate Petition to place a measure to repeal the South Pasadena Utility Users Tax on the ballot for a future election. This is the group's second attempt to repeal the UUT.
