LOS ANGELES - A Montebello father was charged Monday with murder and kidnapping for allegedly killing his wife and stuffing her body in the trunk of a car, then disappearing with his four children, sparking a statewide Amber Alert that ended with a freeway standoff in San Diego County. Daniel Perez, 43, is expected to be arraigned Monday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles on the single count of murder and four counts of kidnapping. This is a BREAKING NEWS ALERT. Daniel Perez is being held at the Montebello city jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday. The cause of death has yet to be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner's office. Daniel Perez was taken into custody on suspicion of abducting his four children, ages 6 to 11, who were taken away by law enforcement after a standoff with police on a San Diego County freeway. "Don't hurt them, please, they are innocent .. Family members said the couple had an "unstable" marriage and a history of domestic violence, according to police.

According to investigators, Daniel and Erica Perez, along with their sons, ages 6 to 11, disappeared Dec. 5 and were reported missing four days later, on Tuesday. Erica Perez had been convicted in March 2011 of misdemeanor corporal injury to a spouse and sentenced to 60 days in jail, authorities said.
