The mishap occurred about 4:30 p.m. on Telegraph Road, just west of Gage Road, Montebello police officials said. "The load was improperly secured," he said. The driver was unhurt, he said. The accident knocked out power to the nearby Quality Inn & Suites, trapping several people inside elevators, but the electricity was restored within minutes, Calleros said. The eastbound lanes of Telegraph Road remained shut down early Saturday evening, though the westbound lanes were closed as workers repaired the damage, police said.
Witnesses are describing a harrowing rescue of a man trapped inside his minivan after it plowed into a pole Thursday night and became draped in live power lines. The crash took place just after 7 p.m. in Montebello, at Beverly Boulevard and Poplar Avenue. Inside the minivan was 68-year-old Pou Wen Chi, a doctor who lives in Montebello. Approximately 5,000 SoCal Edison customers lost power for several hours because of the crash. There are several homes without power Friday night but SoCal Edison says that was unrelated to Thursday's crash.

MONTEBELLO -- An elderly man appeared unscathed after the minivan he was in struck a power pole in Montebello. Firefighters responded to the accident at Beverly Boulevard and Poplar Avenue just after 7 p.m. Thursday. They de-energized the power and an elderly man got out of that minivan," Sky 9's Stu Mundel reported. Mundel said the impact of the collision knocked out electricity for nearly 3,000 residents. Repairs in the area were expected to take several hours. The cause of the collision was not known.

The Montebello Police Department's DUI Enforcement Team also will be conducting saturation patrols on Feb. 1, officials announced in a statement. The National Football League's Super Bowl XLIX between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks is set for 3:30 p.m. Feb. 1.
MONTEBELLO -- Police continue to search for two men who attempted to kidnap a woman from her home and are hoping a new sketch will help them be successful. Two suspects, one wearing a mask and gloves, grabbed the woman after she walked into a laundry room. "She was able to break free, run out, the two suspects ran out after her, " Montebello Police Sgt. Marc Marty said. The other suspect is described as 6-foot-2, of large build and wearing a black and gray shirt and jeans at the time of the attempted kidnapping.
The lawsuit alleges that the suspected killer, Ka Pasasouk, was improperly supervised after his release from prison and should have been behind bars at the time of the deaths. Pasasouk, a Laotian immigrant, is facing a possible death sentence for the Dec. 2, 2012, killings of Amanda Ghossein, 24, of Monterey Park; Jennifer Kim, 26, of Montebello; Robert Calabia, 34, of Los Angeles; and Teofilo Navales, 49, of Castaic. The lawsuit, filed Jan. 21, 20014, asks for unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
A woman escaped a kidnapper in Los Angeles County this week, but not before her husband was punched trying to protect her, police said. The Montebello Police Department is searching for two men who drove off in a white Chevy pickup truck in the attempted kidnapping, leaving behind "materials consistent with a kidnapping," police said in a statement Friday. The would-be kidnapper in a gray hoodie tried to grab the Montebello woman walking to her exterior laundry room at about 9 a.m. Monday, police said. The accomplices escaped in the truck.
On Monday, January 12, 2015, at approximately 8:15 a.m., deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Temple City Sheriff's Station responded to an "armed robbery" call at the "Olive Garden" restaurant located at The Shops at Montebello, unincorporated South San Gabriel. When deputies arrived, they learned that the suspect, a male adult, entered the "Olive Garden" restaurant before it opened for business. Surveillance video from the restaurant and nearby Montebello mall is being reviewed by investigators.
SOUTH SAN GABRIEL - A gunman robbed an Olive Garden restaurant and five employees in a San Gabriel-area shopping mall before the eatery opened Monday, making off with an unknown amount of cash. Deputies were called to the restaurant in The Shops at Montebello about 8:15 a.m., according to the Sheriff's Department. Anyone with information was asked to call 946-7008. An armed robber stormed into a Southern California Olive Garden on Monday and locked five employees inside an industrial refrigerator, officials said. A man with a gun showed up to the restaurant in the 1800 block of Montebello Boulevard in Montebello before 9 a.m., while it was closed, LASD Sgt. Long said. Deputies said the man also stole cash, but they did not know how much or whether it belonged to the restaurant or the employees. The employees were inside the refrigerator for 30 to 40 minutes, but no one was hurt, Long said.
MONTEBELLO -- Police sought the public's help Saturday to locate an 82-year-old woman that has been reported missing. According to the Montebello Police Department, Guadalupe Lupe Paradez was last seen in Arcadia around 5:00 p.m. on Friday, as she left a family member's home. Paradez is a Hispanic woman who stands 5-foot-8 tall, weighs 220 pounds, has brown hair, brown eyes and has light complexion, authorities explained. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to contact the Montebello Police Department at 887-1313.
