Three men have been charged with robbing a Verizon Wireless store in Manhattan Beach. Charged Thursday with conspiracy and robbery were Carl Gamboa, 21, of Gardena; Jacob Stephens, 18, of Hawthorne; and Rodney Kinney, 21, of Los Angeles. The men allegedly held up the store at Aviation and Artesia boulevards about 9 p.m. Tuesday, taking iPhones and iPads. Were released pending further investigation. Wicker and Farris were arrested in a car near the crime scene. Prosecutors decided there was insufficient evidence to charge them.

A man was shot on a sidewalk in front of his sister in Hawthorne and later died, Hawthorne Police said Monday. The man was standing on the sidewalk with his sister on the 11900 block of York Avenue in Hawthorne near York Elementary School. Two men approached and began making comments about the man's sister, neighbors said. After the man defended his sister from the remarks, one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and opened fire. Both suspects jumped into a car and fled the scene going south on York Avenue.

Bass was sitting in his car arguing with his girlfriend on Doty Avenue on Feb. 26 when the girlfriend's mother, Martina Olivacce, 67, tried to intervene. Bass allegedly backed up his car and hit Olivacce, pinning her beneath a tire before driving away, prosecutors said. Bass was convicted in 2009 of first-degree burglary with a person present, and in 2013 of one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, prosecutors said. He was being county jail on $170,000 bail and faces up to 10 years in state prison.
