For five miles east of McGehee, Highway 4 is as straight as the Delta farmland is flat. A few houses appear on your left, and the road abruptly turns. Last week, I made this drive and visited this enchanted town. Arkansas City was once a prosperous Mississippi River port. Much of Arkansas City was evacuated. Relics of this history still grace the streets of Arkansas City. I believe in this new vision for the Delta, and I want to do what I can to promote it. I've even pledged to take a bike ride along a portion of the Heritage Trail this fall.
For the third time in a week, a Seven-On-Your-Side subject makes a court appearance in a different Arkansas county. Here is an update on the legal woes of Nelson Walker Jr. Walker, the Pine Bluff contractor accused of taking money for jobs and then doing little or no work, gave us the slip in Arkansas City after his latest court appearance.
